In collaboration with Education Queensland, IM developed “From the Heart”, the official Acknowledgement of Country video for Queensland schools and education contexts.

From the Heart

This project aimed to authentically capture the voices of young students from across Queensland, including urban, regional, rural and remote areas, reflecting their deep connection to the land they live and learn on.

About the project

We were asked to create a contemporary approach to the Acknowledgement of Country that privileged youth voices and demonstrated the diverse country, schools and students across Queensland.

This Acknowledgement of Country needed to feel authentic, youth-led and more organic than previous Acknowledgement videos produced for the department.

The challenge

Beginning with extensive outreach, IM engaged schools across Queensland, particularly in regional and remote areas. Working with teachers, students and school staff, we guided classroom discussions, framed conversations and drew out what students found most special about the Country they learn on. Students directly shaped the script, the images captured and the overall tone of the video.

Led by IM’s videographer and editor, Dave Meikle, the production team travelled across Queensland to document student and teacher perspectives. The filming process prioritised authenticity, allowing participants to express their love and respect for Country in their own words.

The solution

Illustrated sticker collage of diverse landscapes and community environments surrounding an orange spiral background.

The result was a heartfelt and visually compelling Acknowledgement of Country that resonates across school communities. The video stands as a pillar of culturally engaging, inclusive representation for young students across Queensland.

The results

Project services: engagement, creative
