About the project
The ILSC Custodian Toolkit simplifies complex legislation about Custodian appointments, helping communities understand the steps involved in establishing a Prescribed Body Corporate and the ILSC’s supporting role in native title processes. The resource translates dense legal content into approachable information designed around the communication needs of its audience.
The challenge
The project needed to balance legislative accuracy with clarity, empathy and cultural relevance. Complex legal processes had to be refined into understandable steps, using native language first and English as a supporting language, while addressing community hesitation about engaging with the ILSC.
The solution
IM collaborated with the ILSC legal team, subject matter experts and community stakeholders to identify the essential messages. Consultation informed clear written and visual content, with key material translated into Kimberley Kriol. The communication approach combined relatable design, short-form information and a warm, accessible tone across online, printed and in-person formats.
The results
The completed toolkit created an approachable bridge between the ILSC and its audiences. Dual-language print resources, animation, website content and meeting materials improved access to information about Custodian appointments, Prescribed Body Corporations and the ILSC’s role. The suite enabled complex legal messages to be shared with communities in a clear, inclusive and practical way.
